Although this vacation very nearly killed me. I'm back at work, and have been for 2 days. I actually have work to do, though, so haven't had nearly enough time to catch up with everyone that I missed. Why didn't you all take vacations with me? terribly inconsiderate if you ask me...
We went first to my dad's house for Christmas dinner and presents. From there, we went to Rob's mom's house for 4 days. From there, we went to Rob's dad's house overnight. The next morning, we woke to snow. Of course. On the day we're leaving to drive 4 hours North! it would snow. Whoever thought "Hey, we should got to WI Dells in December. It'll be fun" was... well, right, but the driving there sucked donkey balls. And I didn't even drive. Rob did.
Due to some obscene amount of presents, and and unplanned addition to our vehicle, we ended up having to leave a bunch of stuff at both Rob's parents houses, because we just couldn't fit it all. hopefully, we can get it all back this weekend. There was come cool presents in the pile of stuff that got left behind.
Rob and I got to spend a little time together in Robinson and the Dells. In Robinson, we went to see I Am Legend. It sucked. On first thought, it reminded me of 28 Days Later, which I would rather poke my eyes out with a sharp stick than suffer through again. it wasn't quite as bad, but what could have been a really good story ... wasn't. I had only seen the commercials, so I wasn't aware that it was a vampire-ish movie. If I had read a plot synopsis of the original book, I'm not sure I would have bothered going. I think they did a pretty good job of updating the plot to fit with current events, seeing as the book was written over 40 years ago. But there was so much missing. There was practically no mention of the events leading up to the destruction of humankind. There was no focus on how he survived day-to-day for the 3 years he was on his own. The vampires were, well annoying actually. The whole thing made me wish I had stayed home and re-read The Stand. Now that was a good post-apocalyptic story. And Nick (Rob's nephew, who went to the movie with us) has never read it! We told him to get to the library post-haste.
While we were in Wi, we left the kids with Mom for a while and went out to eat at a very high-end restaurant. very high-end. We spent an ungodly amount of money on one meal, but since, at that point, we had been with the kids almost 24 hours a day for over a week, we deserved it. That much together time is not good for my sanity. And the dinner was soooo delicious. I wish we had money to eat like that more often. Although, we got a really good look at why other countries hate us. There were enough garnishes on our plates to have fed a couple people for an entire day. And it would have been more than they usually got to eat and healthier. God only knows how many carrots had to die just to make our plates look pretty.
The kids of course loved it too. They got to open presents over and over again (Sat the 22nd, Sun, Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, and again when we got home on new years. Talk about a lot of excitement) They were beyond thrilled to have cousins around practically all the time. Anya chased Naomi around the whole time we were in Wi. Ally ran around with whoever would play with her.
it was exhausting. We tried as best we could to keep their schedules normal, but it's damn near impossible on a vacation like that where everyone else isn't napping in the afternoon. And we have stricter rules than most of the cousins, and most of them are older, so they get to do more. There was sugar everywhere you turned. Anya had an ear infection that started the 14th, and didn't get better even with all the ear drops, so we finally had a nurse friend of darra's call her in an anti-biotic. Ally had such a bad cough, she puked a couple of times. i thought she had bronchitis, but it turns out to be a sinus infection. She couldn't stop coughing all week. It all led to a lot of whining. Since we've been home, we've spent a lot of time reinforcing good behavior.
there were so many amazingly fun things on the trip. I'll get to them later. Whenever I have time to get my camera (I got a new camera!!! with an optical zoom! and it's smaller! I love it) downloaded so you can have pictures to go with it. How's that sound?
So if there is anyone still out there checking in, say hi. I missed you. And I'll be back later again

yup missed u!

Also, did you know that your Christmas card reminder post seems to be stuck at the top of the page? I almost didn't notice that there was a new post here... Just FYI... :)
