Voice of an angel
When Ally was a little baby, I learned, much to my surprise, that the ABC's were the same tune as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Yes, it surprised me. What can I say? I hadn't sang Twinkle, Twinkle in years. I'd never really thought about it. Stop laughing.
Anyway, I figured that since I was singing lullabies anyway, I might as well sing something educational. Because we all know that 6 months olds really give a rat's ass. (I used to joke that my kids would be the ones falling asleep in the middle of kindergarten everytime someone sang their ABC's.) I know better now, but I still do it. We eventually added lots more songs to it and it became something between the 2 of us. With Ally, it was just a nice way to wind down at the end of a night. But with Anya it's something different. The songs actually worked as a lullaby with her. They'd really calm her down when she was screaming. Just hearing my voice was enough to settle her a little. I still sing to her if she's having a bad day. And she loves to sing. She is all the time demanding asking me to sing specific songs for her. But now she's old enough to sing too, and she always joins in. And sometimes forbids me to sing with her. Somehow, when she's singing, it's a lot harder to get upset with her for not using her inside voice.
Even after all my singing of the ABC's, Twinkle, Twinkle is one of her favorites.

Please ignore the unwashed woman in the video. I don't know who the hell that was. I certainly don't look like that early on Saturday mornings.
Ally introduced Anya to Humpty Dumpty, but I don't think she's quite got all the words down yet. :)
I sing all the time to both the girls, but I am horrible at making up songs of my own. If you're better at it than me, go to http://www.beanchant.com/bc/ and enter your video.

She can keep a tune!!!! That is pretty amazing at her age you know! I used to sing 'Stay Awake' and 'Feed the Birds' from Mary Poppins and 'My Favourite Things' from Sound of Music. Bloody fussy kid.
