Ally and I are watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (not that horrible new one (that I refuse to see, so I have no actual idea whether it's horrible or not) with Johnny Depp in it) for the first time. We saw a play earlier this year, but this is the first time for the movie. I loved this movie as a child, so I'm thrilled to introduce her to it. I also rented Annie. Sometimes having kids is pretty cool.

the new one is awful! don't watch it ever! you will be haunted by it and it is not for children!

I first heard Charlie as a story read to me by a program on the BBC called 'Jackanory' (cockney rhyming slang for story). It was such a simple concept: they read the story to you and showed picture from the book on the screen, then they'd cross back to the person sitting in an armchair reading. Every day they did a chapter and it was sooooo cool. I used to race home to watch it and see what was happening to Charlie and when that glass elevator went through the roof.....wow! The other series they read to us which I loved was 'The Children of Green Knowe'. Kind of a whimsical ghost story. Memories.
And don't talk to me about Annie....
