I just got a phone call from my husband. This new health care bill is coming up for a vote on Friday. There's a rally Thursday night. I have no idea how, but he wants to get there. I truly believe that this health care plan will FUCK up life as we know it. It scares me. When we took Anya to a pediatric neurologist, it took 1 day to get an apopintment. Less than. Our pediatrician made the apointment for us in the afternoon, and we walked into the office at 9:00 the night morning. I can't imagine waiting forever without action just becasue our health care system has been "improved". I believe that I shouldn't be penalized because others are less fortunate than me. I made me own way. I am responsible for where I am today. And the governemnt is trying to bankrupt private health insurance companies so that I no longer have a choice. Fuck that.
So if anyone reading this is near Washington DC and would be willing to help, I'd love to have a place to crash Wednesday night. Because whether it's easy or whether it's convenient, I am trying to take responsibility for my rights. I will be at that rally with Rob. Whether it does any good or not, I am not going to sit here and wait for someone else to take care of me. I don't know how we're going to do it, with or without the kids, hotel or crashing on a friend's couch, driving or flying, but if we don't stand up and make ourselves heard, who will?

Now you see this is where you and I differ. We have a great health system here. Best of both worlds. It doesn't have to be a disaster. We have a safety net health care system for those who need it and the option for private health cover for everyone else. I can see any doctor I want, my insurance company doesn't dictate that, and if I don't like them I can go somewhere else. Let's hope the US Govt takes a moderate line and develops something like the Australian system. I wouldn't swap it! Having said that, hope you get to express yourself...

I agree with Arizaphale. I don't want to see ALL health care bills dumped, which is how it seems it is trending, towards all or nothing. Lots of countries make it work. I hope we can, too.
I hope you can find peace in the fact that you are trying. And I really wouldnt worry about getting into see a pediatric neurologist. The people without health care aren't lining up there. At clinics, dentists, eye doctors where they haven't had care because of the financial cost, yes, but if your kid needs to go to a neurologist and you dont have insurance and dont have the money, you go through the shriners or some other aid program to get seen. It's just not something you put off. You go because you have to.

I disagree for different reasons - I think the bills under discussion don't go far enough. I believe that single-payer health care is the only way to go.
How many other nations are trying to develop health care systems like ours? NONE. Because ours sucks. We spend more money for worse results than almost anywhere else on the planet.
